Artist Statement
I am an illustrator interested in capturing the scene. Since my childhood, I have been enamored with the way a piece of media can create visionary stories though still frames and images. This is what I seek to find in my work. A moment in time and space. The ability to have our eyes rest on an action, or lack thereof, fascinates me. Equal parts peace and unrest. Through painting and drawing, from both photo references and live studies, I seek to find the essence of emotion in people and places.

Videogames are the main way in which I represent moments. Player interactivity can present itself in actions, options and abilities that have a direct contribution and consequence when transferred to the fictional world. I am interested in depicting this. A moment of relief right before a Save Point. The final blow before a victory. The choice to stop and look at the craft of the digital world. All are valid forms of interactivity and the creation of a scene.

The concept art of media is also a crucial part. Colors setting a mood. Composition directing our eyes through a fictional world. The characters that will interact with it. Through experiencing videogames, I have built my relationships with these concepts. Learning about character designs through silhouettes. Blocking out colors to set a mood is also how I learn to utilize different mediums, such as watercolor, acrylic, and pastel. User Interface and other digital elements have also taught me how to effectively use digital drawing software. This capacity to create the worlds we imagine. Getting these ideas and experiences onto paper and canvas is what I study, hope to improve upon, and execute.
